Why do jaw cysts occur?

Güncelleme tarihi: 26 August 2025

The most common cause is untreated tooth decay. As the decay progresses, inflammation (apical infection) develops at the root of the tooth, and over time, cells in this area form cysts. Cysts can also be caused by impacted teeth, trauma, genetic factors, or previous unsuccessful root canal treatments. The cause of tumors is more complex and is associated with genetic predisposition and cell mutations.
