What exactly are jaw cysts and tumors, and how do they differ from each other?

Güncelleme tarihi: 26 August 2025

Jaw cysts are usually fluid-filled sacs and are benign. They often originate from the roots of teeth. Tumors, on the other hand, are more complex than cysts, resulting from cell proliferation, and some can be malignant. So, not every cyst is a tumor, but not every tumor is necessarily malignant. While jaw cysts are more likely to develop due to dental infections, tumors can also arise from genetic factors, trauma, or unknown causes.
